Masterclass "Maksym Nakonechnyi: Film & Politics"
What happens when cinema becomes a tool for political reflection and resistance?
Maksym Nakonechnyi is a Ukrainian director, producer and screenwriter who has created both short fiction and feature films and documentaries that have received recognition at major international festivals. In the masterclass, the director will share his creative experience, focusing on the relationship between cinema and politics, as well as reflecting on working in wartime and socially complex conditions. He will also speak about the journey of his films through the international festival circuit, offering insight into how personal and political experiences shape cinematic language, the author’s approach, and creative practice.

The masterclass will be led by Maksym Nakonechnyi, Ukraine
Maksym Nakonechnyi holds a Bachelor’s degree in directing from Karpenko-Kary Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television. After working on several TV projects, he teamed up with a group of creatives to form the independent production company Tabor with his friends, which now makes documentaries, fiction films, theatre plays, commercial and social videos, and cultural volunteering projects. Maksym has completed several fiction shorts as a director, and regularly produces documentary films. His most prominent titles include 2020 IDFA Best First Appearance “This Rain Will Never Stop” and 67 Berlinale Generation 14+ Grand-prix winner “School #3”. Maksym’s directorial feature debut “Butterfly vision” was selected to “Un certain regard” competition in Cannes 2022.
The masterclass will be held in English on Wednesday, April 15, at 17:30 at Kaņepes Culture Centre.
Admission to the event is free of charge and open to all.
